Guardian Heroes is a side-scrolling action RPG where your primary goal is to fight through hordes of enemies across multiple branching levels. You control one of several unique characters, each with their own basic attacks, special magical abilities, and a super move. Combat is fast-paced and occurs on three different planes of movement (foreground, middle, and background), which you can switch between by pressing up or down. This adds a strategic layer to positioning and dodging enemy attacks. You gain experience points from defeated foes to level up, increasing your health and magic power, and you can allocate points to strengthen your physical attacks or magical prowess. In the early stages, focus on learning your character's basic combo and a reliable special move.
