Double Dragon V is a one-on-one fighting game where the objective is to defeat your opponent in a best-of-three rounds match. You control your chosen character from a side-view perspective, using a combination of basic attacks, special moves, and throws to deplete the opponent's life bar. The moment-to-moment play involves moving back and forth to control space, blocking incoming attacks, and looking for openings to land your own combos. A useful beginner strategy is to master a few simple, reliable special moves for each character rather than trying to learn complex combinations immediately. The challenge rhythm is defined by the round structure; you must win two rounds to claim the match. In the early moments of a fight, focus on understanding your opponent's patterns and testing their defenses with quick, safe attacks.
